Course Description

For individuals new to wine study, this qualification provides a hands-on introduction to the world of wine. You’ll explore the main types and styles of wine through sight, smell, and taste, while also gaining the basic skills to describe wines accurately and make food and wine pairings.

Course outline

WSET's Level 2 Award in Wines is a beginner- to intermediate-level qualification exploring wines, suitable for industry professionals and wine enthusiasts. This qualification is intended for beginners wishing to learn about a wide range of wines or those seeking to build on the introductory knowledge gained with the WSET Level 1 Award in Wines. You’ll gain knowledge of the principal and regionally important grape varieties of the world, the regions in which they are grown, and the styles of wine they produce. Through a combination of tasting and theory, you’ll explore the factors that impact style and quality and learn how to describe these wines with confidence. More information can be found in the WSET Level 2 Award in Wine Course Specification Here

Tasting component

Students will taste a range of over 40 wines  from the principal wine growing regions from across the world. All samples will be provided to the students.

Assessment

The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines assessment is a closed-book theory examination of 60 minutes’ duration and consists of 50 multiple-choice questions worth one mark each. A student requires a minimum of 55% correct answers to pass and be awarded the WSET Level 2 Award in Wine qualification.

Course registration

All course registrations will close  on 31st October. Late registrations unfortunately can not be accepted.

Entry requirements

You must be of legal drinking age in Australia.

Total Qualification Time (TQT)

TQT is an estimate of the total amount of time, measured in hours, that a learner would reasonably need to be able to show the level of achievement necessary for the award of a qualification. The TQT for the Level 1 Award in Wines is 6 hours.

Reasonable adjustment

Reasonable adjustment is any accommodation or arrangement (approved in advance by WSET) that helps to reduce the effect of a known disability or difficulty that substantially disadvantages a candidate’s exam.
Reasonable adjustments aim to equalise access for candidates – they must not give unfair advantage to candidates receiving the adjustment or affect the reliability and validity of the exam outcomes as detailed in the applicable Specification.
WSET cannot agree to reasonable adjustments where the candidate’s particular difficulty directly affects performance necessary to complete the exam outcomes (e.g., if a student cannot taste for a Level 3 Exam where tasting is necessary).
