Purpose
One of the purposes of the ASVO is “to promote the advancement of professional knowledge, professional skills and professional attitudes, in members of the Society”. In 2012, the ASVO Awards for Excellence was established as a prestigious event to promote industry excellence, foster leadership, and encourage innovation and sustainability in the Australian wine industry.
Awards selection committee
The nomination process for the ASVO Awards for Excellence is taken seriously. The ASVO Board will appoint Award Selection Committees on an annual basis. The Board will select individuals to serve on each committee who have distinguished themselves in their field and who demonstrate exceptional leadership ability and vision. We hold our committee members to the highest standards of fairness, accuracy and integrity and the entire nomination process adheres firmly to these guiding principles.
Awards selection process
- The Society will call for nominations at the start of April and close at the end of May.
- All nominations will be put forward to the Award Selection Committee.
- The Award Selection Committee will discuss the collective nominations usually in two rounds.
- Judges conduct a detailed assessment, possibly including interviews or additional documentation.
- Approval Process – Final selections are reviewed and approved by the ASVO Board or relevant committee.
- In the event of a tie, the two candidates will be presented to the Board for decision.
- The Chair is to work with the Committee members to prepare a final report that outlines the achievements of the selected candidate to present as a recommendation to the ASVO Board.
- Announcement – Winners are officially announced, at the ASVO awards ceremony.
Eligability
Nominees for the ASVO Viticulturist of the Year;
- typically work in the following roles;
viticulturists, vineyard managers, viticultural technical officers, viticultural consultants, and other similar roles. - Non members may apply
- the nominees’ activities for which they are being nominated must have occurred within Australia.
