Issues with herbicide drift

To all the growers out there. Continuing on from August's viti resources post on weed control, here's a 16 minute video from the 2018 Viti Seminar when Dr Gerhard Rossouw from the CSIRO explains the issues of herbicide drift on grapevines and how you might identify them from visual symptoms.  Worth another quick look this Spring. Weeds in the vineyard?

Dr Mercy Olmstead from E & G Gallo talked about weed control at the 2021 Viti seminar. In this 15 minute video, Dr Olmstead talks about moving away from Glyphosate, the potential of new bioherbicides, technology such as blue light or microwave for weed identification and precision spraying, and vineyard design. Having issues with wine stabilisation?

This article looks at both heat (protein) stability and cold (tartrate) stability and areas where innovation and advances in research have provided different options for winemakers to explore, including links to further reading. Sustainable Viticulture in a commercial setting

Soil related plant response is often attributed to additives in the soil. This session focuses on some of the management practices and additives used in these situations. The impacts of cover cropping on the carbon cycle, improving moisture retention and yield in warm inland regions with additives, as well as the uses for bio stimulants and biochar

Any winemakers out there pulling their hair out over bottling challenges?

Last year's oenology seminar was on "Breaking bottlenecks" and session 3 discussed these topics
Managing cold and heat stabilisation
In preparation for bottling with short and long timeframes, Academic review.  What the data tells us from cold and heat stabilities in bottled wines.
Bottling line timeline challenges and solutions
Getting wines and wine products ready for bottling, what are the critical control points and and red lights, how to manage these.
Barrel storage and oak management
Managing a winery where a high percentage of wine goes to oak, timelines, clarification, maturation time, bottling preparation timelines and processes

Managing problematic MLF

The ASVO has a range of resources for various oenology issues. In last year's oenology seminar "Breaking Bottlenecks", part 2 included a session by Geoff Cowey of AWRI talking about Brettanomyces management; testing and interpretation, remediation. How is Brettanomyces managed in a winery environment from fermentation, to barrel storage to bottling and post. Watch the presentation on YouTube (copy link and paste below) with Cowey's talk from time stamp 25:35 to 40:10 https://buff.ly/3LAxJwM
