Dr Yanina Daniela Giordano
About Me
Dr Yanina Daniela Giordano is an applied microbiologist and wine scientist with experience spanning industry-embedded research, postdoctoral fermentation science, and cross-institutional agricultural programs. She completed her PhD in Wine Microbiology at The University of Adelaide (now Adelaide University) as part of the ARC Training Centre for Innovative Wine Production, in an industry-embedded project with the Australian Wine Research Institute focused on managing Brettanomyces spoilage and improving fermentation performance under commercial conditions.
Yanina’s career combines scientific depth with practical winery and laboratory experience gained across Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Argentina, Italy and Spain. She has worked across commercial wine production, laboratory, and research environments, giving her a strong understanding of how microbiology, process control, and innovation intersect with the day-to-day realities of wine production.
In her current roles at Adelaide University, Yanina works as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Fermentation and Applied Microbiology Laboratory and contributes to national agricultural initiatives through Analytics for the Australian Grains Industry (AAGI) and the Biometry Hub. Her expertise includes microbial behaviour in complex fermentation systems, spoilage control, experimental design, and the translation of technical findings into clear, practical outcomes for industry partners.
Yanina is particularly interested in how microbiology, AI, data modelling, and analytics can support more resilient, quality-focused wine and fermentation industries. She values opportunities to connect research, industry practice, and cross-sector collaboration through the broader ASVO network.
