Dr Naomi Verdonk
About Me
Dr Naomi Verdonk brings a broad and in-depth background in regulatory analysis, technical winemaking and consumer research. She holds undergraduate qualifications in oenology, law, and French, and has undertaken postgraduate studies in wine science, legal practice, international wine law, and wine business.
In 2021, Naomi completed her doctoral thesis, supported by an Australian Postgraduate Award and a Wine Australia scholarship, at the University of Adelaide's School of Agriculture, Food and Wine. Her research focused on Australian consumer preferences for different sparkling wine styles. In addition to her academic pursuits, she has completed multiple winemaking vintages in South Australia and has coordinated and lectured in both bachelor's and master's programs of viticulture and oenology at the University of Adelaide.
Naomi joined Wine Australia in late 2021, where she supports wine exporters in growing their businesses by providing accurate and practical guidance on international wine regulations. She advises the Australian grape and wine sector, government bodies, and global trade organisations with specialist expertise in wine market access issues. Her knowledge spans overseas duties and taxes, compositional wine standards (specifically oenological practices and analytical testing), labelling requirements, and customs importing procedures including certification.
Naomi's work exemplifies a unique integration of scientific research, legal expertise and international wine trade engagement, positioning her as a significant contributor to the worldwide vitivinicultural network.
